June 21st - Yakki goes home...

Yesterday morning, just as we were about to go out for the day, Evan arrived with a tiny charge.  One little turkey chick, cold and gasping.  We have an emergency incubator box filled with fleece, a wheat bag and electric pet blanket.  And so... we arrived LATE, with box and chick and in need of an electic plug.  'Yakki' (as in 'close your eyes Yakki, you should ought to see what's going to happen...') was fed and admired all day.

This morning - bright eyes toured the old farm kitchen, and nearly fell asleep by the pot belly stove.

Now back with Mum, he's doing well.

It’s June 2010 the middle of winter and one turkey mum has been sitting on eggs for 4 weeks.  We though there was no hope - but overnight 10 little miracles happened...  Only one failed to make it out of the shell in time.

So… Evan to the rescue… 10 live chicks need shelter FAST.  A lean-to was made in the corner of a chook pen and all babies are being cared for by a wise and happy Mummy.

16th June 2010 - Guests enjoy feeding the animals and meeting Dingle our one eyed turkey.  EVERYONE's special here!

Superb one day - perecft the next. Tomorrow we may even see the SEA behind those hills. The drought has broken. Feeding Cows at Ridgeland Farm New Zealand Evan feeds Dingle to the delight of our guests
Mum tries to hold her little girl and hand feed the cattle amid squeals of delight.
Dingle knows his name and will sneak behind the pens while the others feed.  He knows we will keep treat just for him and Evan can pick him up, so we can all pat the turkey.  Where else but Ridgeland?
